Services

I am a full service Registered Piano Technician ("RPT", www.ptg.org), working primarily in Western Oregon and Southern Washington. We are called "piano technicians", rather than "piano tuners", because Registered Piano Technicians have the training to offer many services in addition to tuning, such as regulation (mechanical adjustment), voicing (improving the tone quality), repairs, restoration, and piano appraisals.

I have performed a wide variety of piano-related tasks, from managing inventories of instruments for schools, to consulting with piano buyers to find the instrument that best suits their needs, to eliminating buzzes or making sluggish moving parts move freely.

There are about 10,000 people in the U.S. claiming to be piano tuners or technicians. About 4,000 of them are members of the Piano Technicians Guild, and of those, about 2,500 are Registered Piano Technicians (they have passed rigorous tuning, technical, and written exams). You may be unaware that anyone can pick up a tuning hammer and advertise their services. It is up to you to determine whether they have the training, experience, and skill to make your piano sound and play its best.

I lived in Mexico for 20 years and am fluent in Spanish. While a great deal of my work has been in concert halls with concert grand pianos, I enjoy improving every kind of piano, according to the priorities and budget of the customer.

I am not a piano refinisher, but will gladly put you in touch with one.
